Department’s Background
Nicknamed the Sammo SCHOOL OF BUSINESS by its alumni, the Business Faculty’s BUSINESS PROGRAMME/COURSE is one of the first and foremost courses/programmes mounted in the school at the inception of SAMMO SHS. The Sammo SCHOOL OF BUSINESS is renowned for our approachable faculty and the quality of our (past) students. Our active students body and our highly skilled and knowledgeable faculty means we deliver high-quality Business education. We are committed to the success of our students and our faculty draws upon their rich and varied experience to create a one-of-a-kind learning experience with huge impact. It is therefore not surprising that the Sammo (School of) BUSINESS programme is the most successful (department) in terms of excellent PASSES in the WASSCE and its predecessor, the SSSCE. Indeed, it is the first department in the school where candidates recorded all A1’s in a particular elective subject and also one of the two departments which has produced the school’s overall BEST SSSCE/WASSCE candidates.
Elective Subjects Combination
In Sammo, the Business Programme/course consists elective subjects namely: Financial accounting, Business management, Economics and Principles of Cost Accounting alternating with Elective Maths.
The Sammo SCHOOL OF BUSINESS students have two options choosing between Business One and Business two with the elective subjects combination (taught by separate teachers) under each as follows:
BUSINESS ONE | BUSINESS TWO |
Financial Accounting | Financial Accounting |
Business Management | Business Management |
Economics | Economics |
Principles of Cost Accounting | Elective Mathematics |
NB: Plans are far advanced to introduce French and Elective ICT as part of the alternating elective subjects besides Principles of Cost Accounting and Elective mathematics
In addition to the above elective subjects, our students read all the compulsory core subjects such as:
- English language
- Social Studies
- Core mathematics
- Integrated sciences
In all, six subjects are considered in grading for university/tertiary admissions in Ghana. The six subjects are made up of 3 core subjects and 3 elective subjects. However, to ensure that students (at all cost) gain admissions for further studies in prominent Universities and be well prepared for the job market, we encourage and achieve excellent passes in all subjects run in our department.
OUR Aspiration
Based on the standardized syllabus of the various subjects constituting Business programme under GES & WAEC, the Sammo School of BUSINESS’ aspiration is to work extra harder as a team to ensure that all our students will be highly qualified for entry into the various high institutions of learning such as Universities, Polytechnics, Teacher training colleges, Nursing training colleges etc. in Ghana and abroad
Also, we aspire to build our students holistically for proper functioning in society. As a result, we are working as a team to maintain grades between A1 and B2 (in all the elective subjects under our department) by taking time to develop a good rapport with our students, teach practically, evaluate and assess them periodically to ensure the majority of them become and/or continue as excellent students.
