ABOUT SAMMO SHS

Sammo Senior High school is a leading private co-educational institution in the Central Region of Ghana. It has Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as West African Examination Council (WAEC) accreditation and runs it academic courses/programmes based on the GES/WAEC curriculum. It has its own WAEC approved Examination Center where final year students write their WASSCE.

It is the passion for quality education and human resource development that primarily motivated the Founder and Managing Director, Mr Sammy Otoo to establish Sammo Senior High School, Bakaano Campus (Cape Coast) in September, 1997. This noble idea was nurtured against the background of falling standards of education in the country following the mass exodus of teachers to the neighbouring countries.

The main focus was to provide ideal facilities and congenial atmosphere for the training of children particularly the unfortunate ones who could not qualify to some well-endowed schools in the country as well as brilliant but needy children.

The success story of the first school at Cape Coast was just amazing and this encouraged the director to open the second school with ultra-modern Boarding facilities to enhance learning at Yamoransa (a suburb of cape coast) in September, 2003/2004.

 Our Vision & Mission Statements

Vision Statement:

Sammo Senior High school is dedicated to a continuing tradition of excellence in an ever-changing world. Within a safe and supportive environment, we provide a relevant, high-quality education and prepare our diverse student body for future endeavors. We honor achievement and promote pride in our students, in our school, and in our community.

Mission Statement:

We strive to prepare all students to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens ready to meet the challenges of the future. In partnership with families and community, our goal is to create relevant learning opportunities for students — both inside and outside the classroom — that help them develop the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and character necessary to succeed in a technologically advanced world. We honor quality and enable students to perform at their highest level of ability.

Our Core Values

Academic Excellence
Academic excellence is the hallmark of a SAMMO education. Our students, curious and eager to take intellectual risks, secure an exceptional foundation in the arts, humanities, mathematics, and natural sciences through rigorous study in a dynamic residential setting. They are guided by educators who foster independent learning, critical thinking, creative collaboration, and personal well-being.

Knowledge and Goodness
The union of intellect and integrity guides our daily efforts to prepare our students for a lifetime of learning. Thirst for mastery propels our pursuit of academic excellence while application of such mastery for the greater good exemplifies our modus operandi.

Creativity & Innovation
Imaginative pedagogy has long distinguished Sammo SHS’ academic excellence. To maintain a vibrant and cooperative intellectual community, we formally implement this pursuit across the curriculum.

Empathy & Balance
Sammo SHS’ founder charged the head of school with convincing students “of the several great duties they owe to . . . their neighbour, and themselves.” Self-awareness remains just as important today: health, balance, and resilience are essential to a life of sustained and meaningful contribution.

Our MOTTO

“Excellent education, key to excellent Life!!”

OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL

Winston Lamptey Mills is our fearless headmaster. You should meet him. You will meet him. He’s very accessible/approachable. He teaches (ask him anything about Mathematics). He eats in/from our DINNING HALL to ensure that meals for BOARDING STUDENTS are nutritious. He attends athletic and cultural/entertainment events and talks at All-School Meetings/Gatherings. He resides on campus with the students, his office is in the main Administration building, and his door is open, figuratively and very often literally.

‘Opana’ as he’s affectionately called by all has done audacious things at SAMMO (completed the water project, masterminded the impressive 2017 WASSCE results, completed the PTA funded ultra modern Toilet at the Girls’ dormitory, developed a new strategic plan,  ensured the school’s re-participation in the annual inter-colleges sports competition, introduced new vests and track suits for students etc.) within the short time he’s been in office, but what’s so great is that none of this matters when you’re talking with him. What matters is that he’s interested in you—in what every SAMMO SHS student and/or teacher thinks and has to say. He’s mindful of (the school’s) history, fascinated by technology, in love with complexity, and always ready to work alone or together to build, create, or share something important.

We recommend you follow him on Social Media He’s proficient in emojis and will most likely follow you back.
